In case of a generator connected to an
isolated system with no other synchronous plant present, then the function of
the ACR is solely to maintain a constant busbar voltage, as in the static
system.
When applied to a multi-generator system,
then voltage regulation forms one of its functions. Its main effect is to
maintain machine rotor angle and, therefore, to assist in maintaining steady
state stability.
